Bio

Sam Reichman is a writer, performer, editor, translator, visual artist, and educator. He was born and raised in Kansas City and came to New York for college, where he received his B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from Columbia University. After graduating, Sam worked in human rights and forced migration before studying drawing and painting at The Art Students League of New York. He later completed his M.F.A. in poetry at Hunter College, where he received the Mary M. Fay Award in Poetry and taught Intro to Creative Writing.

Sam’s poetry, translations, reviews, and paintings have appeared or are forthcoming in Washington Square Review, ArabLit Quarterly, Pinky Thinker Press, Consequence, Rappahannock Review, Sand Hills Literary Magazine, and Cagibi, where he was shortlisted for the 2020 Macaron Prize in Poetry. Sam has shown his visual work at The Lab on Santa Fe, Artefix New York, Las Laguna Gallery, Wrightwood Arts and Wine Festival, and elsewhere. He has also performed in poetry slams, spoken word festivals, and other venues in the United States and India with organizations including the Nuyorican Poets Café, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Joe’s Pub, Bring Back the Poets Delhi, and Friends of ART, among others.

Sam previously served as the Associate Poetry Editor of Consequence, a literary journal dedicated to art and writing on the culture and human consequences of war and geopolitical violence. He has also taught writing, drawing, and painting at Red Rocks Community College, Colorado School of Mines, Denver Parks and Recreation, The Coalition for Hispanic Family Services, and other organizations. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Literary Translation Studies at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington.
